A Workshop for Grandparents
& Grandchildren

PRESENTED BY FORCE MAJEURE AND WOLLONDILLY PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE

Do you know a grandparent and grandchild with a special bond?
Or a young person who has a unique connection with an elder?

We’re offering up to 15 intergenerational pairs to join us at Wollondilly Performing Arts Centre during the winter school holidays for a FREE workshop experience with Force Majeure – one of Australia’s leading movement-based theatre companies. 

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

One of Australia’s leading producers of movement-based theatre, Force Majeure, are holding workshops at Wollondilly Performing Arts Centre during the Autumn school holidays designed for pairs of young people (age 6+) and their grandparent or favourite elder.

Come along to this welcoming and fun experience where Force Majeure Artists gently show you how to tell stories together with both words and movement. In the 40 min workshop set to beautiful music, you will be encouraged to memory-share and build intergenerational connections. This workshop will spark imaginations and foster wellbeing on social, physical and mental levels.

These workshops are connected to Force Majeure’s immersive work-in-development, Gardener’s Apprentice which will premiere in October 2025. Gardener’s Apprentice is a journey of wonder for young ones to enter, drawing upon the wisdom of their grandparents or elders to reveal the magic we can learn from each other, and inspiring deeper connections between generations. 

WHAT TO EXPECT

For this workshop light movement is required, always taken at your own pace and within your ability. Participants should come in comfortable clothes ready for some light seated movement and ready to take shoes off for moving across the space with ease. You may want to bring a pair of socks. 

This is a paired experience best experienced by a young child (age 6+) and an elder. Although we can be flexible with different variations and can go with trios (mum/gran/kid) (Gran/2 kids) (Gran/pop/kid) with an emphasis on having an intergenerational coupling. If your party includes an additional parent/carer, they can be accommodated to observe from the sidelines.
